When the BBC was moved to their new premises in Salford Quays, they gave Bisley an extensive brief to provide storage for their 2,300 employees which would support their flexible working aspirations and encourage people to move around.
The employees don’t have allocated desks, so personal storage was provided by vibrantly coloured banks of LateralFile lodges rather than pedestals. Each locker has a post slot - allowing mail to be delivered to employees – and a photo holder to allow easy identifi cation. We also provided LateralFile drawer units and cupboards for additional storage, again with multi-coloured door and drawer fronts. The single-height drawers were finished with a seat pad to provide additional ad hoc seating.
Bright, eye-catching storage is not only at the heart of the BBC’s office, but also their flexible working practices. Our furniture also enabled a dramatic reduction in the volume of ‘per person’ storage - from eight linear metres per person in the previous premises to 0.5 metres now.
