Dubai World Trade Centre

Liberating space through the clever use of flexible, high density storage furniture

The Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) is the epicentre for business in the Middle East and has played a pivotal role in Dubai’s business tourism and development since their inauguration In 1979. Employing over 450 people, it has a year round calendar of international trade fairs, blockbuster consumer shows and prestigious international conferences.

Brief

DWTC wanted to have a minimal footprint and liberate space for themselves. Their aim was to enhance how they used their workspaces and improve the environment for employees, at the same time as reducing their storage and office-running costs. They wanted a mobile shelving system that was going to work smoothly and, above all, quietly and effortlessly. Their goal was to have flexibility, where certain departments can have their own section of archiving
which can be locked off for reasons of confidentiality, eg. Finance and HR. Colour was also a necessity in order to create an uplifting yet functional environment for their employees.

Solutions

Project furniture specialist, HumanSpace, chose Bisley’s InnerSpace as the obvious choice in meeting the end-user’s needs. This high-density storage system, designed for the front office, released space where it was needed most. The colour schemes and ergonomic design were a deciding point in their buying decision. The fact that the radius end panels have softened edges and give a sleek finish, appealed to them, as did the fold away handles giving the front of the InnerSpace system clean lines. The belt-drive system of InnerSpace, which provides pretty much maintenance free usage, also appealed greatly.

Results

This modular system has given DWTC the ability to release space where it’s needed most. They found the drive handle that multiplies the user’s effort particularly advantageous and they boasted that they could open multiple bays simultaneously with little effort. The product also helped the end-user relocate the system easily and quickly, so if there is office churn, a new system could be reconfigured quickly. The colour, Bisley Blue, which was used on all the end panels of the compactor units, provided an uplifting office environment increasing employee wellbeing.

The large selection of internal options available including roll-out filing frames to media drawers and reference shelves, as well as multiple heights and single and double depth options were particularly advantageous.

“Three years since the installation, I can safely say that Dubai World Trade Centre is very happy with the investment made in the lnnerSpace system from Bisley and can recommend it. The level of customer service was also excellent.”
